Creative Force claims Carnarvon Stakes

Carnarvon Stakes

James Doyle rides Creative Force towards the finish line to win the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Improving sprinter Creative Force made it four wins from five starts with an authoritative display in the six-furlong Listed Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

The Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi, whose three previous victories had all come over the same distance at Newmarket, broke smartly and soon tracked Mishal Star as the duo raced away from their five rivals early on.

Creative Force found himself in mid-division as the field converged after the first quarter-mile and unleashed an impressive turn of foot approaching the final furlong to put the race to bed in a matter of strides.

He readily opened up daylight before being eased on the line by James Doyle, coming home three lengths clear of Spycatcher.

James Doyle said: “I was very impressed with Creative Force. There didn’t look to be much pace on paper and Charlie said that he is much better with targets to aim at. I was very keen to let him be patient early and let him come into his own in the latter stages of the race.

“He has a great attitude and has taken each step with a great deal of ease. I was pretty impressed with the way he quickened up and he can certainly make his presence felt at a higher level.”

Ideal Beauty shines: Ideal Beauty became the first three-year-old in 19 years to capture the G3 Prix de Saint-Georges with a cosy win in the five-furlong sprint at Longchamp, France, on Sunday.

The Andre Fabre-trained filly, taking on older opposition for the first time after finishing third in the G3 Prix Sigy at Chantilly in April, broke on terms and settled in mid-field of the 13 runners.

Ideal Beauty travelled strongly behind horses two furlongs out and quickened impressively when switched out by Mickael Barzalona shortly after, collaring Berneuil near the line for a three-quarter length success. Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Ideal Beauty is a filly with plenty of experience at this stage of her career. This was the perfect opportunity and a great entry picked out by Andre because she had the weight allowance, while the absence of foreign runners opened up the race a bit as well.

Heresy wins David Coles Stakes: The Godolphin juvenile bandwagon rolled on at Saturday’s Morphettville meeting where Heresy registered the 27th 2YO win of the season for the Australian team with her resounding victory in the G3 David Coles Stakes.

At only her second start, Heresy made light of the step up from a second placing in a Geelong maiden to Group level, running out a clear winner over the males Karacasu and Magic Max.

The win also added to the triumphant season being enjoyed by Heresy’s sire Street Boss who has already had the G1 winner and likely juvenile of the season, Anamoe, and the G2 winner Arcaded during 2020-21.

Heresy displayed a demeanour matched by her ability, settling off the generous early speed under Damien Oliver before providing the perfect answer when called upon.

After a brief battle with the runner up, Heresey forged clear to win by a long neck.

The win was the 53rd at Stakes level worldwide for Godolphin in 2021 and the 12th black-type success among the Australian-trained 2YOs led by the James Cummings-trained Anamoe, runner-up in the G1 Golden Slipper and winner of the G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Urgent Appeal back on turf for G3 Prix Texanita: Urgent Appeal aims to consolidate an excellent winter on the All-Weather on his return to turf for the G3 Prix Texanita over six furlongs at Chantilly, France, on Monday, 17 May.

The Andre Fabre-trained colt completed a hat-trick of Polytrack wins over an extended six furlongs at the same course when staying on well to take the Listed Prix Montenica in mid-March.

The form of that win has since been franked in Classic trials, with the fourth Fast Raaj winning the G3 Prix Djebel and fifth home Sky Angel finishing second in the G3 Prix Imprudence.
