Al Nasr down Fujairah in Arabian Gulf League; Al Ain held

Al Nasr defeated Fujairah 3-2 in a five-game thriller in their ninth round match of the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) on Thursday.

Habib Al Fardan broke the deadlock as early as in the fourteenth minute only to put Al Nasr ahead 1-0. Diaa Saba' chipped the ball inside the box, as Fardan netted the ball home and to hand Al Nasr lead.

In the 43rd minute, Al Nasr doubled their lead through Ryan Mendes. He slotted a Sebastian Taglibue’s pass to make it 2-0.

But an agile Fujairah reduced the deficit with a header from Mohamed Mostafa off a free-kick just before the break.

Four minutes after the start of the second-half, Al Nasr were again the thick of the action as they extended the lead with a superb strike from Mohammed Ayed, amking it 3-1.

A stubborn Fujairah refused to give up and scored another goal when Samuel Armenteros dribbled past Al Nasr defence to find the back of the net.

But after that they could not restore the parityas the game ended in 3-2. Al Nasr moved to second place temporarily on 20 points, while Fujairah are 12th on four points after suffering their seventh defeat.

Meanwhile, Al Ain's bid to exact a revenge against a rampant Ajman proved to be futile as both the teams played a goalless draw to share spoils.

Ajman had defeafted Al Ain 1-0 in their President Cup's match of last 16 to book a berth in the quarter-finals.

After the draw, Ajman remined second from the bottom with just three points, having lost six matches and sharing spoils in other three.

While Al Ain are on the fourth spot with 15 points, after procuring four victories, two draws and three defeats form their nine matches.

They are closely followed by Al Wahda, who have 14 points, and are not in action until Friday.
