AM/UAE Polo shine on third day of Silver Cup

Another action-packed day continued as Ghantoot Polo faced AM/UAE Polo team in an exciting match at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club.

Ghantoot Polo team secured a fast lead on the first chukker with 3 goals and Jacinto Crotto scored 1 goal for the Jacinto Crotto scored one for the AM/UAE Polo team before the buzzer. Quick to recover, the team scored additional 2 goals which were beaten by an excellent rebound shot Abdulla Bin Desmal from Marcos Araya’s pass a 100 yards away from the goal.

The game was levelled as the teams were at a tie by halftime with Lulu Venot’s first goal during her initiation into high goal polo. The last two chukkers saw the teams race to gain an advantage which Ghantoot Polo was successful.

With the win imminent, Ghantoot Polo defended its position until the last 40 seconds of the final chukker as Ignacio Acuña stole the win from the team and settled the game at 8 goals to 7.

The Silver Cup 2020 will continue with two matches in Field 3. Zedan Polo will play against Habtoor Polo at 2pm and the UAE Polo team will face Dubai Wolves at 4pm.

Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series was founded in 2009 by Mohammed Al Habtoor, patron of the Habtoor Polo team. Growing rapidly every year, the Gold Cup (Dubai Open) was recognised by the World Polo Tour (WPT); in January 2014, the WPT committee credited the Gold Cup tournament as the highest competition in terms of points within the WPT Challenge Cup category, elevating it to 50 points for the winner. 2015 marked the first time ever that the WPT upgraded the Gold Cup Tournament from ‘Challenge Cup’ to the highly coveted ‘WPT Cup’, resulting in winners receiving 60 points. In 2017, the tournament was moved up to WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition point-wise, awarding its winners with 125 points.

The Silver Cup is ranked under the WPT Cup category, with 50 points for winners and the Dubai Challenge Cup falls under the WPT Challenge Cup Category, awarding its winners with 20 points.

Meanwhile, Maserati took centre stage last weekend as St Moritz welcomed the Snow Polo World Cup 2020, now in its 36th edition.

The Italian carmaker premiered the Levante Royale Special Edition, a celebration of dynamic elegance, as guests gathered on the St. Moritz lake to attend one of the most glamorous events of the social calendar.

The Snow Polo World Cup Final, of which Maserati is official sponsor, took place on Monday: after an exciting game Team St. Moritz lifted the Trophy, after beating Team Azerbaijan 4 to 1 and 1/2.
