Atletico Madrid failed to win for a third straight game in all competitions as an inspired performance from Ruben Blanco secured Celta Vigo an unexpected 0-0 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone’s side saw their 100 per cent LaLiga record come to an emphatic end against Real Sociedad last weekend, while they rallied on Wednesday to secure a 2-2 Champions League draw with Juventus.

With this draw, it was a sluggish Atletico that failed to score at home in league action for the first time since May 2018.

Earlier, on Saturday, Samuel Chukwueze provided an assist to help Villarreal defeat Real Valladolid 2-0.

After featuring as an unused substitute in last Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Leganes, Chukwueze came off the bench in the 66th minute for his fourth league appearance of the season.

The 20-year-old assisted Javi Ontiveros to score his maiden goal for Villarreal in the 89th minute, which doubled the hosts’ lead after Santi Cazorla broke the deadlock in the 77th minute.

The victory moved Villarreal to third place in the La Liga table with eight points after five matches.

Chukwueze will be hoping to increase his tally of a goal and an assist when Villarreal visit Barcelona for their next league fixture on Tuesday.

In a Friday encounter, Osasuna drew 0-0 with Real Betis at home to remain undefeated in its first season back in the Spanish league.

Osasuna beat Leganes in its opener and has strung together four draws, including 2-2 against defending champion Barcelona.

With this goalless draw, Betis kept its first clean sheet of the season.

Betis next hosts Levante on Tuesday, while Osasuna visits Real Madrid on Wednesday.
