Inflation hit about 10 per cent last year, according to the World Bank. The cooking oil price is up 130 per cent since Imran Khan took power and the cost of fuel has risen 45 per cent to Rs145 ($0.82) a litre in a year.
The scheme will cost the government Rs450 billion and will provide free medical treatment to the people at government and private hospitals. Each family can avail treatment worth Rs1 million annually.
Talking about the cash handouts given to the people under the Ehsaas programme, the premier said that it had increased from Rs12,000 to Rs14,000. In addition, graduates would be given internships and paid Rs30,000, he added, without elaborating further.

"We will be giving this call to all Pakistanis, not just PTI supporters, as Pakistan has been insulted after the country's most corrupt people were imposed on us by a foreign power," Imran said in a video statement.
"I am announcing our 'real" freedom movement from Mianwali today... I am preparing my nation... when I will give you a call to come to Islamabad will you come," he asked the charged crowd.
The petition requested that the dissident PTI members should be disqualified from parliamentary affairs for life and that if any member wants to leave the party they must resign as members of the NA first "instead of committing defection.
The prime minister said that the nation’s anger would keep on brewing with the opposition’s push for its no-confidence motion, adding that the public should witness this kind of politics which had always pushed the country behind in terms of progress and prosperity.
Imran said that his opponents claim that the summer heat would not allow people to leave their homes to march on Islamabad, but he believes that heat cannot deter brave youth and sisters.
In a tweet, Imran said he had a "great meeting" with the Chinese president. "We agreed to further enhance our strategic and economic relations and to fast track the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor," he said.
