Etihad Airways has operated its first ever flight to Havana, Cuba. The goodwill flight, chartered by the Government of the United Arab Emirates, landed in the capital of the Caribbean island nation, carrying Cuban nationals returning home from the UAE.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates Chairman and Chief Executive, said: “I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed for their latest directives to reopen air travel which show their vision for Dubai as a world leader in business and tourism.”
Some intensive care specialists are trying to hire more permanent staff. Others want to create a reservist "army" of medical professionals ready to be deployed wherever needed to work in wards with seriously ill patients.
Taipei’s downtown Songshan airport on Thursday began offering travellers the chance to do just that, with some 60 people eager to get going, albeit to nowhere. Around 7,000 people applied to take part, the winners chosen by random.
"However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on case to case basis," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation circular read.
“So far, 113,154 Pakistani nationals have been repatriated from different parts of the world. We thank all the governments of these countries for their cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of our nationals,” Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said.
The move, announced by the US Department of Transportation, penalises China after Beijing failed to comply with an existing agreement on flights between the world's two largest economies.
After the medical check-up and the coronavirus test, the passengers will be allowed to go their homes, instead of the quarantine centre, if they do not show any COVID-19 symptoms.
Consul General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates Paul Raymund Cortes told newsmen on Sunday that 127 of the 382 were visit visa holders, the priority of Manila in this repatriation programme. There are approximately 127 terminated from work who have to exit the UAE between Aug.18 and Dec.31, 2020.
In a statement by the airline on Thursday, flights can be booked on emirates website or via travel agents, Emirates sales office and contact centre. Passengers will be required to comply with all requirements of the destination country.
