Abu Dhabi Police activate the speed reduction system for 5 hours daily during the fog. The fog began to form intermittently on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain road, as the horizontal visibility levels decreased to less than 1,000 metres.
The NCM said, "Heavy fog was witnessed over Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Ras Al Khaimah."
Fog also formed over Madinat Zayed at 7am, and Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah recorded the lowest temperature on Thursday morning, reaching 4.1°C at 6am.
The UAE’s weather body said Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah experienced thick fog in most of the areas, while Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah saw fog patches in some areas.
The accident occurred due to distraction from traffic on the road and not keeping sufficient space between vehicles when there was poor visibility due to fog.

The Police explained that this measure contributes to enhancing traffic safety in order to preserve public safety in line with the strategic priority to make roads safer.
Different regions of the UAE witnessed fog which lasted 8 hours, resulting in low visibility, less than 50 metres on some coastal and interior areas, as a result of the country being affected by a surface air extension, accompanied by an air extension in the upper atmosphere.
The UAE authorities have warned motorists to reduce speed when driving on highways, and if possible pull over if the fog affects the visibility.
