Imran Khan called on his supporters to "come out” as party workers and police officials clashed outside his Zaman Park residence in Lahore on Tuesday.
The government was sending additional police to tackle the situation in Lahore's upscale area of Zaman Park, where Khan lives.
Senior PTI leaders and workers voluntarily surrendered themselves to the police. Police said they have not arrested anybody, and the PTI leaders, seeing the prisoners’ van, themselves forcibly got into it.
"I have made a committee which will obviously take decisions once - if - I'm inside" jail, the 70-year-old said in an interview in his Lahore home before heading to Islamabad early on Saturday. He said there were 94 cases against him.
The federal government has vowed it will find a way to take Imran back into custody, a move that would likely cause a resurgence of riots and mob attacks.

As former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested in the premises of Islamabad High Court on Tuesday morning, protests broke out across cities in the country by the workers of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf (PTI). The arrest was made by Pakistan Rangers and other paramilitary personnel in a case before the National Accountability Bureau regarding the Al Qadir Trust, of which Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are the sole trustees. The NAB has made a case of money-laundering against Khan.
The high court subsequently approved the senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader's two-day protective bail in all cases and barred authorities from arresting him from within the limits of the federal capital till May 17, local media reported.
Following a mass departure of leaders from the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf due to the May 9 vandalism, party chairman Imran Khan expressed willingness to negotiate with "anyone who is in power."
The PTI leaders are Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Azam Swati, Pervaiz Khattak, Ali Amin Gandapur, Farrukh Habib, Aun Abbas, Zartaj Gul and Ali Muhammad Khan. The diplomatic passport of Sheikh Rashid has also been suspended.
