Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Honorary President of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has donated Dhs10 million to support their relief programmes for all those affected by the Beirut port explosion, reinforcing the ERC’s efforts to mitigate the effects of this disaster.
Arab League Chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit said on Saturday he would seek to mobilise Arab efforts to provide support to Lebanon after a massive explosion destroyed parts of its capital Beirut this week.
Thousands of demonstrators, some of them brandishing nooses, had descended on the city centre to vent their fury at politicians they blame for Tuesday's explosion, which levelled Beirut port and killed 158 people.
"The response plan includes a significant amount of assistance and psychological support for kids, specially that all available reports indicate an increased number of victims among children," Dr Mohammed Al Falahi said.
Since the explosions, people have crowded into the hardest hit districts to inspect their damaged homes and businesses, or as volunteers in cleanup efforts.

A report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released on Tuesday said the World Food Programme (WFP) would be sending 50,000 tonnes of wheat flour to Beirut to stabilise Lebanon's wheat supply.
