The new facility will accept passport renewal applications with effect from 14 June 2020.
A few days ago I read in the news that the United Arab Emirates has overtaken Seychelles to become the world’s most vaccinated nation. Earlier to that, there was a report that its passport stood in third place globally in the passport index. And now another milestone. What all this means is that the nation is on the up, even under trying times (“UAE ranked the second safest country in the world,” July 8, Gulf Today).
The previous Taiwanese passport carried “Republic of China,” its formal name in English font at the top, then “Taiwan” at the bottom. According to the government that had created confusion for its citizens internationally.
The new design is more safe and has new smart digital features. The existing passports and ID cards will be replaced gradually.
The service aims to help those who have been living in the UAE for a long time and don’t have any permanent address in India.
Global aviation body IATA said last month it is developing a set of mobile apps to help passengers navigate COVID-19 travel restrictions and securely share test and vaccine certificates with airlines and governments.
“The positive diplomacy of the UAE contributed to strengthening position of its passport,” the Arton said.
A senior official Alam Gul Haqqani, the passport office's acting head, told reporters in Kabul they would issue between 5,000 and 6,000 passports a day and women would be employed to handle the processing of female citizens' documents.
Usually, it takes four days to get a certificate but the new service enables customers to get it quicker in three steps rather than eight.
