Blood donation campaigns are ongoing according to the highest safety standards, said the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) in a statement issued ahead of World Blood Donor Day, which takes place on Sunday.
The Dubai Blood Donation Centre had approximately 22,000 blood donors of 150 nationalities, amounting to about 20,000 units collected from mid-February until now, in addition to 1,737 platelets and blood plasma donations.
Two blood pressure-lowering drug classes, called ACE inhibitors and ARBs, came under scrutiny after the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention reported in April that 72% of hospitalised COVID-19 patients 65 or older had hypertension.
The campaign aims to encourage community members to register as organ and tissue donors, contributing to improving the quality of life of patients suffering from organ failure.
