The Malaysian king was seen off at the Presidential Terminal in Abu Dhabi by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah witnessed 1,304 worshippers performing Taraweeh prayer. The Tahajud prayer was performed by 5,103 worshippers.
The UAE capital made the exclusive list after the Chinese-owned website identified its top five destinations for expanding any travellers’ horizons with art and culture-filled holiday.
The top ten list was announced as part of TripAdvisor’s ‘Travellers Choice Awards’. This year’s awards recognised 759 landmarks across 68 countries and eight regions across the globe.
The Ministry of Presidential Affairs (MoPA), in coordination with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE) and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, said that Taraweeh prayers would be streamed live from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on official television channels and radio stations in the country throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has launched several initiatives and activities to help enrich the experience of People of Determination of the Centre.
Around 19% of the visitors were from the UAE, and 81% were tourists. The number of those using the mosque's jogging trail reached more than 33,000 users.
This achievement is one in a series of successes that underscore the mosque's position as a prominent cultural landmark on the global tourism map which stands out among the world's places of worship and cultural and tourist attractions.
The preparations were carried out by task forces who worked 24/7 to ensure that Sheikh the Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Al Fujairah, and Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Al Ain achieve the highest levels of readiness in Ramadan.
