Pakistan and its people have responded to "this epic tragedy (floods) with heroic humanity. We must match the heroic response of the people of Pakistan with our own efforts and massive investments," he told the conference in Geneva.
Pakistan's information minister listed the top donors as the Islamic Development Bank, with $4.2b; the World Bank, at $2b; the Asian Development Bank, at $1.5b. She said the European Union had pledged $93m, Germany $88m, China $100m, and Japan $77 m.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, said the daylong conference will be based on a UN-supported assessment that indicates Pakistan suffered more than $30 billion in damage.
