Having lived in the UAE for decades, I have come to terms where I appreciate the country’s remarkable growth, its varied range of services available to residents, all at a convenience. Yet, one aspect of everyday life that deserves continued attention is the importance of basic customer service and professional etiquette.
Customer service is not always about going the extra mile, offering elaborate solutions or exceeding expectations. Sometimes, it begins with a smile, a greeting, an inclination to listen, or a simple “thank you” in return. These gestures take very little effort, yet they can make a person feel valued and respected.
Whether it is a retail shop, hiring a cab, hopping into a clinic, showroom, a corporate office, every interaction presents an opportunity to create an optimistic impression. While efficiency and speed are important, the human interaction should never be overlooked.
As someone whose sharply professional responsibility is to serve customers, understand their needs and ensure they feel well taken care of, I often find myself reflecting on these everyday encounters. They serve as a reminder that good customer service is not merely a job function; it is an attitude that should extend beyond the workplace.
