Ms. Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar, the captain of the Indian women’s team, who plays as an all-rounder, has relinquished her leadership position. She has had a scintillating career as a sportswoman.
She had a modest upbringing and earned her fame through sheer grit, determination and performance.
Women’s cricket was unknown in India in the early 2000s. It was hardly watched. Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were the players who were revered. Harmanpreet and her teammates made women’s cricket popular and famous in the country. They won many trophies and awards. India applauded Harmanpreet and her team. Everyone loves victories.
However, Harmanpreet did much more than popularising women’s cricket. Harmanpreet showed that an Indian girl could make her mark, in a field traditionally dominated by men.
She broke the shackles of the past and opened new doors for Indian girls. For this, she deserves our gratitude and admiration.
