In the old days of my youth, it was easy to tell who was good or bad especially with the westerns, the good guys wore white hats, the bad guys wore black hats. It's no longer so easy, nor so precise.
Quite recently OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said "We believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency". This scares me and should scare most people.
At a simple level if medical research, when done ethically, leads to 1,000 people being better but one person is much worse or dies then the medicine does not get released. It must make everybody better off, not nearly everyone.
We don't really need to worry about Arnie and the Terminators, but rather the data collection and the lack of privacy, the apparent lack of copyright acceptance.
No one wants 'some bad things' that might lead to better things.
