Important report

A report by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warning about rising sea levels that could affect millions of people in Kolkata and Mumbai should be taken seriously (“Sea level rise could affect millions in Kolkata, Mumbai: UN,” Sept.13, Gulf Today website).

The report is studded with red flags about the impact of sea-level rise caused by global warming, which melts glaciers and ice sheets and warms the waters, affecting property, people, and even cultures.

Climate change has now become one of the biggest burning issues facing the whole world. Slowly and gradually, global warming is gripping the entire planet.

Unusually heavy rains, tsunamis, forest fires and deadly heat waves in many parts of the world are claiming a huge number of precious human lives. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. The world is able to tackle the issue of climate change before it gets out of control. I am sure the Indian government is capable of safeguarding its people, as the warning has been issued in a timely manner.
