Women power

The great news that surfaced a couple of days ago — that Lahore-born Saadia Zahidi made history as the first woman to lead the International Air Transport Association — surely made every Pakistani and the country proud (“Pakistan-origin Saadia makes history as first woman to lead IATA,” July 24, Gulf Today website).

According to the report, The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has appointed Lahore-born Saadia Zahidi as its director general in place of Willie Walsh, who will relinquish his duties on July 31.

A press release said Saadia Zahidi will take over as the air transport body's new chief on Nov.1 this year. Sandrine Le Borgne, IATA's chief financial officer, will serve as acting director general during the intervening period. Zahidi is the author of Fifty Million Rising, a book which traces the rise of working women in the Muslim world.

I have always believed in women's power. It is so important not to underestimate women's power at all. In my point of view, one woman with intellect and the best character is superior to 50 men.

Lahore-born Saadia Zahidi has, without a doubt, made history through her passion and hard work to reach the top position at the International Air Transport Association.

I would like to congratulate Saadia Zahidi on her great achievement and wish her the very best for a bright professional career.
