Laudable verdict

The recent verdict by the Dubai Misdemeanour Court deserves strong appreciation and public support. The decision to fine an intoxicated driver Dh24,000 and suspend his driving licence for three months sends a clear and necessary message. Driving under the influence of alcohol, causing an accident, fleeing the scene after damaging multiple vehicles, and driving against the flow of traffic are grave offences that endanger innocent lives and public safety.

The rule of law is the strongest pillar of a fast-growing, peaceful, and well-governed nation. No individual, regardless of background or nationality, is above the law. In this regard, the United Arab Emirates stands as a shining example where laws are implemented in their true spirit and upheld without discrimination.

The UAE is home to more than 180 nationalities who live and work together in harmony. This diversity thrives because of a system that ensures dignity, fairness, and equal accountability. Full credit goes to the visionary leadership of the country, which guarantees respect for all while firmly enforcing the rules necessary for public order.
