A monumental problem confronting India is the rising and persistent unemployment. Thousands of graduates are always hunting for jobs. The official unemployment figure ranges from two to five per cent. However, considering the disguised unemployment levels in the country, the unemployment could be about 10 to 20 per cent. Graduates work as delivery boys for online companies. There are instances of thousands of applications for a few jobs in the government or police services.
The foreign employment opportunities for the Indian educated youth in the USA, Europe, Australia are also drying up, due to tighter immigration and local pressures. So, India needs to create its own jobs to absorb the teeming millions of youngsters. The manufacturing and service sectors have the potential to generate the maximum jobs. India has to focus on them.
