The prices of medicines are increasing all over the world. The costs of hospitalisation are also mounting. People who live around the poverty line cannot afford these costs.
Many in the middle-class rungs also have difficulty paying for medical insurance premiums. Governments across developing countries, especially in Asia and Africa, should ensure free treatment and medicines for critical illnesses like cancer and AIDS.
This will help to save lives and also resolve the problems of the weaker sections of societies. There is also need to upgrade the quality of public hospitals and health centres in many of these countries.
