The proposed meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump in Florida to discuss a possible peace plan for Ukraine has drawn global attention (“Zelensky to meet Trump in Florida for talks on Ukraine peace plan,” Dec.28, Gulf Today).
At a time when Russian air raids continue to intensify pressure on Kyiv, any diplomatic initiative aimed at ending this prolonged and deadly conflict is a welcome development.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has caused immense human suffering, displaced millions, and destabilised global economic and security systems. Dialogue, even when marked by differences over sensitive issues such as territory and sovereignty, remains the only viable path toward lasting peace. History has repeatedly shown that wars end not on battlefields but at negotiating tables.
The international community watches with cautious optimism, hoping wisdom and compassion will guide the discussions. A genuine commitment to peace from both warring sides could bring relief not only to the people of Ukraine and Russia but also to a world yearning for stability, security, and an end to unnecessary bloodshed.
