This refers to the selection of players for the ODI & T20 series against Australia. Definitely it was a real surprise to see that the ODI series would be captained by Shubman Gill and the most successful captain, Rohit Sharma. We also refer to the criticism of former national selector and dynamic opener, Krish Srikanth, about the selection methods of the current selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.
Apart from the captaincy issue of Rohit Sharma, choosing Dhruv Jurel as the backup wicket-keeper, overlooking the performances of Sanju Samson during his last ODI series.
Despite scoring tons, he seems to be a victim of our selectors biased selection policy. Time and again he has proved that he is one of our best openers, along with Abhishek Sharma or even Yashaswi Jaiswal.
However, like some favoured players, he seldom gets to play five to 10 games continuously. Failure in one or two games will seal his selection in the next game playing XI. Incidentally, the road ahead for our best ODI players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli too looks bleak.
Now that Rohit Sharma has been overlooked for the captaincy against Australia ODI series, the day is not far off if they decide to quit the ODI matches too. Politics seems to be active in Indian cricket, which could prove to be a bane for the cricket team in India.
