After another hurricane innings by Indian opener Abhishek Sharma and valuable contributions from our middle order batsmen, our team was able to post a daunting target of 203. But the Sri Lankan batsmen, especially their opener Puthum Nissanka’s century and K. Pereira’s 58, almost took them to the post. Their valuable knocks proved that our bowlers, especially the match-winning spinners, could be taken to the cleaners.
Of course, some may feel that Bumrah’s absence helped the Sri Lankan team, forgetting that he was also taken to the cleaners by the Pakistan batsmen during their Super 4 match against India. This should give a ray of hope for the Pakistan team to attack Indian spinners during the Asia Cup Finals on Sunday. Our only hope is that our players would play to their potential and do not get overconfident, while taking on Pakistan on Sunday.
Of course, our boys should keep their hands clean, without any butter, to catch the chances that come their way.
Incidentally, the form of both our captain and vice-captain is a real worry. Like Rohit Sharma, who has proved to be a big match player, both our captain and vice-captain would strike good form to lift the Asia Cup and prove it to be a Super Sunday.
