I read a report in Gulf Today on Friday morning which stated that the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has officially opened its first international campus at Dubai International Academic City.
Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was present at this momentous occasion. As an Indian, I am feeling very happy. This is great news for all Indian expatriates.
We already have IIT Delhi — Abu Dhabi in operation, now we have IIMA also in Dubai. It is great so see that world-class Indian universities have come to the UAE and Indian students need not travel to their home country for their education.
Now Indian expats can go to IIT or IIM here only. Apart from these two universities, Symbiosis, Manipal, BITS Pilani and Amity are already in operation. I remember when I had arrived in the UAE 20 years ago, I would wonder about the future of my child’s higher education.
I did not want to send her away from me and that would bother me a lot, but after 20 years, Indian universities have arrived here and I feel very happy about it. Now, my daughter is at the cusp of leaving her school and planning to join university next year and this is a perfect time for her to join university by being a resident of Dubai.
