I’m not someone deeply involved in politics nor do I support any particular party.
However, as an Indian citizen, I feel compelled to share my concern regarding the ongoing controversy around Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil.
If the allegations against him are proven true, he must be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Anything less would send a dangerous message to society.
Unfortunately, Kerala has often been in the spotlight for alarming cases of sexual harassment, abuse, and violence against women. Many perpetrators act without fear because they believe they will escape strict punishment.
What example are we setting for ordinary citizens if even powerful and well-known figures are not made to face the law? It would only deepen the culture of impunity and discourage victims from seeking justice.
The Congress party and the government must act decisively in this matter. Suspending a leader temporarily is not enough if the charges are serious and substantiated. Justice should not be influenced by an individual’s fame, position or political clout.
Every accused person must be treated equally before the law. To restore faith in democratic institutions and to ensure the safety of women and citizens at large, strict and impartial action must be taken.
