Though it may seem that the selectors have chosen the best players for the Asia Cup Tournament to be played in UAE, we feel there is some disparity in the selection of the squad.
During the last IPL season, Sai Sudarshan of Gujarat was awarded the Orange Cap as he was the top run scorer during last season, followed by Surya Kumar Yadav.
But Sai Sudarshan has failed to find a place in the squad. So is the case with Shreyas Iyer, who too scored tons of runs to lead Punjab XI to the finals. Even Washington Sunder, who was the hero @ Oval Test, could not find a place in the reserve.
He should have been an automatic choice. Thankfully, Sanju Samson has found a place, lest it would have been a zero representation from the South.
Incidentally, the selection of Gill, that too as Vice-Captain, could be a warning for Surya Kumar Yadav to be on his toes.
We feel Gill should have been rested for the Asia Cup and Shreyas Iyer should have been included. Probably the selectors are keen to burden him with the captaincy of all forms of cricket, which may backfire.
It is better to have different captains, like Australia & England.
