Alternative proposal

It is sad and unfortunate that the talks between Presidents Trump and Putin did not result in any peace formula for Ukraine. So, the war may continue indefinitely. Tragic.

Now, the European nations will seek a tough line from the USA against Russia. It would be erroneous. President Putin will not give in to any pressure, even from Europe and USA combined. He would risk a larger war now, rather than have NATO troops on Ukrainian territory later.

Perhaps Ukraine should just join the European Union, without joining NATO. Then, Ukraine will not be part of any military alliance. This may be acceptable to President Putin. At least, it is worth trying. In any conflict, it is important that everyone saves face. A win-win situation is the best way to resolve conflicts.
