Several prominent Bollywood figures, including Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Chinmayi Sripaada, Varun Grover, and Vir Das, have criticised the top Indian court’s recent directive ordering all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to be relocated to shelters. The celebrities labelled the ruling as a “death sentence for all dogs” on social media. I appreciate and thank the Supreme Court for this wonderful ruling. I have lived in Delhi from 1995 to 2007, and I know how painful it was to walk on the streets of Delhi in the night. It was a very challenging time for me. I have been chased by dogs many times during my stay in Delhi.
I could never go to the library alone from my hostel due to an excess of stray dogs in the night. Every night I would come across cases of dog bites in my locality. This is a very old problem. Those who have lived in Delhi or living there know how painful it is to step out from their houses after sunset. Those who are against this ruling have never experienced an encounter with dogs. Just for the sake of ‘likes’, people start talking about the subject, which they have never ever experienced in their entire lives. I feel those who are against this ruling should stroll in any part of Delhi after the sunset and then they should tweet.
