I was taken aback on Monday evening while watching the match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). One of the most bankable teams of this IPL season, GT had set a target of 209, but the moment RR batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi came in to bat they made a mockery of the world-class bolwers. Vaibhav hit a breathtaking century in the IPL. It was one of the greatest innings in men’s Twenty20 cricket history.
He became the youngest player to score a century in the history of Indian Premier League in just 35 balls. Just nine days after becoming the youngest debutant in the IPL, Vaibhav blew away audiences with a century in his third match. He was lightning fast. Such a wonderful batting at this age is unthinkable. Coming from Bihar, Suryavanshi has announced that he is cut out for a bigger stage. With his terrific performance, he instantly became a poster boy of this year’s IPL. Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash reward of Rs10 lakh for Vaibhav. I hope Vaibhav continues playing like this and gets selected for the national side.
