Meghan Markle

There are a number of reports that Meghan Markle is a possible replacement for Dianne Feinstein when Californian governor Gavin Newsom makes a decision about her replacement who will fill-in for the next 13 months. Surely the only two factors for her are that she is a ‘Black woman’ given that apparently Governor Newsom intends to replace Feinstein with a Black woman. She had the opportunity to contribute to guiding a country, but she and her husband appear to have fled his home country to avoid the consequences of such a role.

Not having any political experience does not prevent you from being a senator or even president, thanks President Trump. Being an actor is also not a hinderance given the Presidency of Ronald Reagan, star of “Bedtime for Bonzo” or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s time as Governor of California. Replacing someone of the capacity and contributions of Dianne Feinstein will be a difficult task but Governor Newsom might need to look wider than just those that offer themselves for the job. This is an important job and should be done by the best possible candidate, not just the loudest or best connected. There were about 22 million Black women in America in 2018 (thanks Google) who would welcome the opportunity to make an effective contribution. Think wisely, listen to the better voices and don’t stuff it up.
