The United Arab Emirates has once again taken the lead to protect the marine environment and save it from climate change disasters (“Efforts to protect and manage marine environment broaden,” Aug.3, Gulf Today website).

According to the report, as part of the Year of Sustainability and in preparation for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) held a workshop to develop the national strategy for the sustainability of the marine environment and fisheries. The workshop aims to review national efforts to protect and manage the marine environment and fisheries, including aquaculture, in addition to developing future programmes and projects and identifying the main challenges and opportunities available to enhance the sustainable development of marine ecosystems and living water resources, leading to the identification of a shared national vision and key strategic guidelines for the period 2024-2030.

There is no doubt that climate change has affected all natural resources. Developing a national strategy for the sustainability of the marine environment and fisheries is a timely and right decision towards protecting the marine environment and fisheries.

It’s a beauty of the visionary leadership of the United Arab Emirates who foresee future challenges rightly and adopt a needful strategy to protect the country’s natural resources from its negative impact.

I am sure the world will also join hands with the United Arab Emirates to protect the marine environment and fisheries from climate disaster.
