The high-level discussions that took place in the United Kingdom in which Dr Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President-Designate participated, brought the hope that concrete measures will be taken to counter climate change in coming days (“COP28 President-Designate advances innovative climate finance, leveraging public, business and philanthropic capital,” July 13, Gulf Today website).

According to the report, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President-Designate, has participated in high-level discussions on climate finance with US President Joe Biden and King Charles III, alongside leading investors and philanthropists, in a visit to the UK to advance innovative climate finance to deliver climate action and a just energy transition.

During his visit, Dr Al Jaber attended a forum on Climate Finance Mobilisation convened by the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Rt Hon. Grant Shapps MP and the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry.

The forum was attended by UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance, Mark Carney, as well as private sector and philanthropic leaders from finance, sustainability, and climate action.

Climate change is the biggest threat to the existence of the world. The world has witnessed in the last few years the climate change disasters. All the seasons of weather are turning harsh whether it is a summer or a winter. Last year the Western world experienced a harsh summer which broke the record of more than 100 years. A number of people died last summer in the Western world because of the heat wave.

Heavy rains, flooding and forest fires are claiming innocent lives and destroying properties and cultivated lands.  The high-level discussions on climate finance with US President Joe Biden and King Charles III, alongside leading investors and philanthropists, will definitely pay the way to take serious steps to fight against climate change and save the world and coming generations.
