An overloaded ship of migrants which left Syria boarding people from different countries capsized and sank in open seas off Greece in which more than 79 people died and many are still missing. It’s a huge human loss and surely depressing news (“At least 79 drown, hundreds missing in migrant shipwreck off Greece,” June 15, Gulf Today website). According to the report, at least 79 migrants drowned early on Wednesday and hundreds more were missing and feared dead after their overloaded boat capsized and sank in open seas off Greece.

As a painstaking search for survivors continued, a European rescue-support charity said it believed around 750 people were on board the 20- to 30-metre-long vessel. The UN’s migration agency estimated up to 400 while Greece declined to speculate on the passenger count.

People from vulnerable countries try their level best to leave their respective countries and get shelter whether it is legal or illegal in developed countries to earn a reasonable money and live their lives peacefully, but they don’t realise that the way they are adopting to get a peaceful life may put their lives in danger.

Humanitarian work is going on, the United Nations migration agency is working hard to rescue the remaining missing passengers. I would like to appreciate the commitment of the United Nations migration agency towards humanity.
