The news of traffic accidents in the first 10 days of Ramadan in which three people were killed and 34 injured is indeed painful (“3 dead, 34 injured in separate accidents in Dubai in first 10 days of Ramadan,” April 15, Gulf Today website).

The month of Ramadan teaches us humanity, passion and care for unprivileged people. It is a month of mercy. People who are lucky observing this month have a huge responsibility to show decency and follow the true teachings of Islam.

Dubai Police have called on motorists to abide by traffic rules, especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan, and show patience and restraint with other drivers during hours before Iftar.

According to Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai Police, they recorded the deaths of three motorists during the first ten days of Ramadan and injury to 34 others in 47 different traffic accidents, compared to one death and 23 injuries in 29 accidents during the same period last year.

The reports show the lack of patience in people during the month of Ramadan. People who fast have the responsibility to show grace according to the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The motorists should abide by traffic rules set by the authorities to save not only their own precious lives but others as well.
