After a long wait, the UAE has now allowed resident visa holders to return to the country, subject to complying with the set guidelines (“7 steps to get ICA approval: Stranded residents returning to UAE must apply now” (Aug. 7).

Thanks to Gulf Today for such a detailed report which will help the smooth return of the stranded residents to the UAE, where they live and work.

As far as India is concerned, its citizens contribute mammoth overseas earning to their economy.  However, when they are in extremely difficult circumstances, especially during the pandemic which is now more than a year, they do expect some support from their government. But it is hard to come by despite repeated calls and assurances. Non-Resident Indians do not want just promises, what they need are efforts that are practical and reliable for their survival overseas as well as in their home country.

Meanwhile, the request to those countries that have provided vaccines which are yet to be approved, is to help their citizens to clear the hurdle so that they can return to their workplace.  Since the world doesn’t know when the pandemic would end and life will get back to normal, it is for every human to respect and follow health guidelines and help others survive in this extremely challenging time.
