There is no vision except the vision to destroy the earth until we all perish. And maybe perishing of the human race is the best thing that can happen for the planet and the other inhabitants (“Vision on how to come to grips with climate crisis”, May 17, Gulf Today).

We have plundered our home and made it into a garbage dump teeming with stench. And we continue to destroy while still holding climate change meets in various locations around the world. Nothing has come off these meets and nothing will ever, unless all the governments unite and take climate change seriously.

So what generally happens is that the representatives of various countries will attending such meets and give large promises about making policies to make their countries energy efficient, and other such tall claims. These meets get great press coverage and the news is flashed all over the world about how the “leaders” are going to tackle the enemy – climate change. The leaders then go back to their respective countries after the meeting is over. And the promises that were made at the meeting remain at the meeting. For when they touch base, they remember the promises they have made to their industrialist “friends”. These friends need coal to expound their already over-flowing millions. These friends also donate handsomely to the next election campaign.

And thus the larger and bigger promise is thrown away for a petty promise. And what was discussed in Glasgow remains in Glasgow just the same way as what was discussed in Paris remained on a paper in Paris.
