One of the most exciting events in the movie industry took place on Sunday in Hollywood. Corona meant the 78th Golden Globe Awards took place virtually but it was actually quite good to watch. This week we take a look at some of the best moments the award show had to offer.

First of all, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted the ceremony while both on opposite coasts. They were brilliant together and watching them made you forget about social distancing and a televised award show. Their opening monologue touched on real issues which no doubt moved everyone who was watching.

A brilliant and emotional moment in the show came when the late Chadwick Boseman’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted his Best Actor — Motion Picture Drama award. Sadly Boseman passed away before the movie, ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ about a blues singer in the 1920s, was even released. The film is directed by George C. Wolfe and is based on a play of the same name. A lot of people will forever remember Boseman from his superhero role as Black Panther.

There was a lot of criticism about what constitutes a “foreign language film” and the winner of that category caused a lot of raised eyebrows. “Minari” is an Asian American movie about a Korean American family who move from busy California to rural Arkansas. Writer-director Lee Isaac Chung wanted the story told in Korean while many claim it could have been told it English.

In other news this week turn to our Music pages to read about the latest updates on Britney Spears. Her fans have been supporting her as she faces legal action against her father who controls her income and you can see this in the latest documentary about her, “Framing Britney Spears.”
