Protesters demand release of Aung San Suu Kyi in Yangon, Myanmar. Reters

While it is true that freedom loving countries such as those in the west that uphold democracy, must speak up against the military coup in Myanmar. It is also true that the world must speak up against the atrocities metted upon Hong Kong residents.

Reality is different. Reports state that China not only continues to treat the Hong Kong residents with blatant impunity but China also violates human rights in regards to its own citizens with its censorship. The UN human rights watchdog has been highlighting the issue.

The same indifference is shown by the world’s democracies to Myanmar. Press statements are issued and the prime ministers of the various white countries say their words. And the issue lingers on.

Why, there are several atrocities happening all over the world. The US war in Iraq that unleashed havoc in Syria, the US inhuman treatment of the detainees in Guantanamo Bay, the atrocities of Bolsonaro towards the indigenous peoples of the Amazon.

The problem is that the “leaders” don’t care because they see the world not as one but as a segregation of rich and poor countries.
