Glimpsing at my neighbours decorating their verandah with lights has got me upbeat of festivals coming up. It’s wintertime, a festive season. Twinkling lights, bright lanterns, and marigold flowers strung up in homes across the country mean one thing — Diwali celebrations have begun. Wow!

The festival of lights is here again. A festival that gives a chance to pause and be grateful for what we have, to cherish memories with family, friends and loved ones. To chuckle and enjoy what life offers us. In today’s deafening hustle and bustle, we all need to take a little time to enjoy our festivals and occasions.

Though the festival of Deepavali has undergone quite a few changes it brings forth rich memories. The last time I played with crackers was when I was in high school. I still reminisce the time when I was a kid enjoying Diwali with my neighbours, roaming around the corridors bursting crackers and wishing all my friends was splendid.

Sadly, today celebrations are quite reticent. But though times may have undergone a sea change customs and traditions remain the same. Dressed in brilliant silks and glittering gold jewelry families do gather and celebrate. This year though, social distancing will have to be adhered to everywhere.

But whatever it might be, whether it’s a big or small celebration, it’s a festival and one needs to enjoy it to the fullest. Time to catch up with little joys. As for me, I am off to the stores to grab a bite of those succulent colourful Diwali sweets.
