Yet another story adds to the climate change repertoire. The common thread in these stories besides climate change of course, is that the victims are people of the grassroots and seemingly inconsequential people of the planet and the animals (“Like the speed of the wind: Kenya’s lakes rise to destructive highs due to climate change,” Oct. 20, Gulf Today).

The story in question is about Kenya and the lakes of the Rift Valley. The reportage is chilling. The rise in the level of the lakes affects not only the people who have their houses which have submerged, but the rise in lakes have threatened ecosystems.

The habitats of the migratory birds and flamingos are in peril. The Rothschild giraffe is waiting to be rehabilitated. The hippos are trampling on vegetable patches and there is a thus an ensuing conflict.

If this would be a court case, the people to hold at ransom are just a handful. Trump, Bolsonaro and the world leaders who make diabolical decisions.

However, nobody will be held at ransom. And the poor man will suffer. The rich of course will have their pockets overflowing.
