Stay fit, stay healthy

While the world suffers from the ongoing pandemic, physical interaction is limited due to social distancing.  It looks like the crisis is here to stay for a while as the number of cases continue to shoot up.  Physical work-out is a daily part and parcel of my life. As a matter of fact with parks being shut I see more and more people working out and doing various kinds of physical activity in open areas.

Doing some form of exercise is an easy and free way to boost both your mental and physical health, and now is the ideal time to try a new activity, especially for those of you who are forced to stay indoors.

If you’re working or studying from home then you won’t be getting the incidental exercise you normally get while commuting to and from office. And if you’re the kind of person who likes to get active in a group, like gym classes and team sports, these again are no longer an option.

Physical activity helps the body and mind in many ways. The exercise releases chemicals like serotonin and endorphins, which are great for your mood. Burning calories and being in shape adds more confidence to one’s personality and style.

Even 10 minutes of exercise a day can help your body and mind feel better. It can also be a dance —Zumba — as long as you find it effective and you love what you’re doing.  Encourage your loved ones, who are also spending a lot of time at home, to exercise. Yes, in the present situation each of us needs to be extra cautious and vigilant, but that does not give us an excuse to say a “No” to exercise.
