There is no doubt that the coronavirus is a deadliest pandemic that has spread horror and deaths around the world (“World needs to stand united against virus,” April 4, Gulf Today).

The world is fighting against the coronavirus united but it is also fact that the distress caused by coronavirus COVID-19 to humanity refuses to cease.

According to reports, global cases of the new coronavirus have shot past 1 million with more than 53,000 fatalities, as death tolls keep soaring in the United States and western Europe while, on another front, the world economy spirals disastrously.

To be very honest, I must say now the whole world is on the same page to fight and win the deadliest ever war against the coronavirus. Corona war is the first of its kind that the entire world is fighting together for mankind.

The plight of the poor across the globe needs to be addressed. The suffering faced by the informal migrant workers affected in India, for example, many of whom were forced to leave the cities where they worked at just a few hours’ notice, unable to pay for rent or food, highlights the gravity of the situation.

The lockdown in India represents a massive logistical and implementation challenge given the population size and its density and we all hope the spread of the virus can be checked, as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, points out.

It is so important to help a country like India that has a huge population and is facing the toughest time because of the pandemic.

I must admit that because of coronavirus I am seeing the different face of the world, where people are honestly ready to help and helping each other regardless of community, language, colour and religion.

Where there is news of horror and death, we all humans are also experiencing the true love and care for each other.

I am sure we all will win that war against coronavirus in the near future united, and will not forget the lesson we are learning about helping, love and care for others.
