Festival par excellence

Sharjah Light Festival

The Sharjah Light Festival is a must-go event for us. The spectacular play of light and sound was exceptionally good this year, so much so that my children visited some of the venues more than thrice during the duration of the festival (“A symphony of colours, melody, architectural grandeur marks Sharjah Light Festival,” Feb.12, Gulf Today).

Sharjah has already earned itself a distinct position on the global tourism map as a centre for culture. Events like these not only boost tourism but it also gives local residents and expats an opportunity to get a glimpse of tradition and heritage via a novel medium.

For example, my children thoroughly enjoyed the Little Giant play all around the buildings of Al Qasba with water, fire and colours.

Considering that it was the festival was celebrating a decade, the organizers added more locations and that was a welcome sign. Indeed, the festival is a grand celebration of architectural grandeur, culture and art of illumination profiling the emirate’s iconic buildings, monuments and cultural and tourist attractions.

Sharjah is already recognised as the home of Arab and Islamic culture and civilization and so cultural events in the emirate are keenly followed. No wonder the festival popularity is on the rise. Last year it attracted more than 1.2 million. And I am sure that has gone up considerably this year. As all the venues I went to with my family had a huge attendance. Thank you, Sharjah.
