Over the past nine months, Sharjah Department of Public Works (DPW) successfully delivered a wide range of vital projects in various sectors including education, healthcare, sports, parks, community facilities, marine infrastructure, maintenance, digital transformation, architecture and community-focused initiatives.
Sports projects
In Sharjah City, DPW completed a number of sports, community, and educational projects early this year. These included an integrated sports complex at Al Qasimia University, spanning a built-up area of 6,380 square metres and featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool, spectator stands, a multi-purpose hall, a fitness centre, offices and supporting facilities.
DPW also completed Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club in Shaghrafa 4, covering 14,865 square metres and comprising four sports halls, facilities for trainees, coaches and administrative staff, a clinic, prayer rooms and a multi-purpose hall.
Additionally, DPW built a sports hall for Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation and completed the Social Empowerment Foundation building, which spans 6,500 square metres. This two-story facility houses a reception area, offices, meeting rooms, sewing workshops, product display areas, a multi-purpose hall with a capacity for 150 people and various service and consulting facilities. The site also includes internal roads, parking for 150 vehicles, service and security buildings, storage areas, a shaded children’s play area, a theatre, a sports hall and green spaces.
DPW also completed the Big Heart investment project in Al Qarayen 4, Patrol Department building in Al Ramtha, Muhathab school and College of Music, which spanned 8,100 square metres and comprised 25 classrooms, studios, lecture and training halls, offices, service facilities and a covered walkway connecting it to the academy.
Other contributions included work on Sharjah Education Academy, development of the National Park and Sharjah Discovery Centre and completion of Al Majara Park nd early childhood centres in Al Rahmaniya, Al Suyoh and Victoria.
Urban development
Additionally, DPW completed 3 commercial buildings in Muwaileh and various areas within Sharjah City and levelled 11 plots of land in Al Muwairidha 6 and constructed boundary walls and utility facilities in Maysaloon, Al Mirqab, Al Khalidiya, Al Sajaa, and Al Shuwaiheen.
This track record reflected the integration of projects—both completed and currently underway—across the emirate’s cities. These encompassed educational, sports, healthcare and community facilities as well as parks, marine infrastructure, and various maintenance, rehabilitation and outfitting initiatives—all pursued in parallel with digital transformation efforts and the consolidation of a distinct architectural identity.
In doing so, DPW continues to establish an advanced model for urban development management—one characterized by broad geographical reach, a diverse range of projects, and enhanced facility efficiency—thereby fostering a better quality of life and supporting sustainable development within the emirate.
