The Traffic and Patrols Directorate impounded 1,596 vehicles for unauthorized modifications to their engines or chassis and causing excessive noise over the past 10 months of 2026. These violations breached traffic rules and regulations and caused a disturbance to residents and other road users.
Illegal modification of vehicles such as alterations that increase the noise from engines or exhaust systems constituted a violation for which legal action would be taken against those responsible, they said.
The noise resulting from these practices created a disturbance in residential neighborhoods, negatively affecting the comfort of residents and the overall quality of life in the city, they added.
Abu Dhabi Police stressed the importance for vehicle owners to abide by the approved technical specifications and refrain from making illegal modifications, while regulatory efforts would continue in order to curb such violations and enhance road safety.
