The Dubai Gold District plans to open Dubai’s first gold walkway before the end of this year. Made of 24-carat gold, the walkway is expected to be the first of its kind and the longest in the world.
Rashid Al Harmoudi, Senior Director of the Commercial Sector at the Dubai Gold District, said the walkway is scheduled to open within the next two months, creating a new tourist attraction in the district. He explained that the project is part of efforts to strengthen Dubai’s position as a tourist destination and a global hub for gold trading.
Dubai also set two Guinness World Records for the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of earrings in the world. The record-breaking pieces were handcrafted in the traditional jhumka style.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event announcing the two Guinness World Records, Al Harmoudi said the walkway would allow residents and tourists to walk along a golden path, offering a distinctive experience in the Dubai Gold District.
He also highlighted plans for an exhibition project in the district that aims to become the largest gold and jewellery trade exhibition in the Middle East.
Al Harmoudi added that, since the beginning of the year, the district has recorded a 20% increase in the number of wholesale gold trading offices operating there, alongside a 15% rise in the number of new stores selling gold, jewellery, precious stones and luxury watches.
He added that expansion work is underway in the district to meet growing demand from companies in the gold and jewelry trade seeking to base their operations there. He expects the number of companies relocating to the district to rise by 10% to 20% over the coming year, alongside the development of new office and retail spaces as part of the expansion plans.
