The Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock has launched the fifth phase of its initiative to distribute 25 tons of organic, non-genetically modified (non-GMO) wheat seeds to local farmers. This initiative is part of a generous grant from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The launch event took place at the administrative building of the wheat farm in Mleiha, attended by members of the Wheat Farmers Association, along with farmers and homeowners from the region. The programme aims to provide support to an estimated 600 farmers.
Salem Abdullah Al Kaabi, Director of the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock, highlighted that this phase focuses on delivering 25 tons of organic, non-GMO wheat seeds to support farmers in increasing their wheat production. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Emirate’s ongoing efforts to empower farmers, encourage expanded wheat cultivation, enhance local agricultural output, and ensure the sustainability of farming activities across the region.
Additionally, Al Kaabi announced that the department will conduct educational workshops for participating farmers. These sessions will provide guidance on effective wheat cultivation techniques and agricultural practices tailored to the unique climatic and environmental conditions of the UAE.
