Dubai Police have reiterated their dedication to field operations aimed at addressing negative driving practices, specifically targeting issues like excessive vehicle noise and the illegal modification of engines and exhaust systems.
Between January and the end of September this year, the General Department of Traffic issued 7,735 traffic tickets and impounded 1,630 vehicles.
These figures include 2,045 fines and 333 impounded vehicles related to causing excessive noise, as well as 5,690 fines and 1,297 vehicles seized for unauthorized engine or chassis modifications. These measures are part of intensive traffic campaigns focused on improving road safety and curbing practices that disrupt residents and road users.
Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, emphasised that noise from vehicles and motorcycles, especially those equipped with modified engines or exhaust systems to amplify sound, constitutes a harmful behavior that undermines the community's peace and comfort. Such disturbances are particularly problematic in residential areas and during late-night hours.
In addition to disturbing daily life, these loud noises can harm public health. They may also distract drivers and other road users, potentially increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents.
Brigadier Juma Bin Suwaidan stressed Dubai Police's strict approach towards certain practices by enhancing inspection campaigns and traffic monitoring, as well as taking legal actions against violators.
According to traffic laws, driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise leads to a fine of Dhs2,000 along with 12 traffic points. Unauthorised modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis result in a fine of Dhs1,000, 12 traffic points, and the vehicle being impounded for 30 days.
He noted that depending on the violation's severity, the provisions of Decree No. (30) of 2023 concerning vehicle impoundment in Dubai will be enforced, including legal actions against offenders and specific vehicle release fees as outlined in the Decree. He made it clear that Dubai Police will not tolerate traffic behavior that endangers road user safety or disturbs the community.
The Police are expanding the deployment of noise monitoring devices across various roads to bolster their traffic oversight system, improve identification of non-compliant vehicles, and utilize modern technology to detect and trace noise sources. This effort is part of Dubai Police’s ongoing commitment to employing smart technical solutions for enhanced traffic safety and community comfort.
Brigadier Juma Bin Suwaidan advised vehicle owners, especially young people, to comply with traffic laws and avoid illegal modifications to vehicle engines or exhaust systems. He stressed that responsible driving demonstrates acknowledgment of other road users' rights and respect for community residents, warning that any violators disrupting peace will face strict legal action.
He further pointed out that Dubai Police's intensive regulatory efforts and public awareness campaigns about traffic laws have led to a decline in vehicle-related noise. Dubai Police remains committed to strengthening oversight measures and enhancing monitoring capabilities to curb negative practices, thereby ensuring community peace and well-being.
He called on community members and road users to utilize the traffic safety platform at www.amanroads.gov.ae for information and awareness guidelines. These resources aim to cultivate a culture of road safety and awareness about improper road behaviors, promoting safe driving principles that help in reducing accidents and protecting lives and property.
