Kuwaiti artist Raja Mohammed passes away at 64, leaving behind a lasting legacy

Grief and shock have swept through the Gulf entertainment industry following the announcement of the death of retired Kuwaiti artist Raja Mohammed on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 64. During her relatively short artistic career, she left her mark on theatre, television and singing before choosing to step away from the spotlight and devote herself to her family life.

Her name returned to the spotlight following the circulation of a video clip from a media appearance during Ramadan, alongside condolence messages shared by several artists and media personalities.

The cause of Raja Mohammed’s death has not yet been officially announced. However, some websites have circulated reports that she had been suffering from intestinal health problems linked to Crohn’s disease, which reportedly required her to be admitted to hospital several times in recent months.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the end of the small intestine and the beginning of the colon. There is currently no known cure for the condition. Symptoms may include loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal cramps, while complications can include bleeding and intestinal obstruction.

Final Media Appearance Resurfaces

The announcement of her death coincided with the renewed circulation of a video clip featuring the late artist during Ramadan, which was said to be her final media appearance.

In the clip, Raja Mohammed spoke about the last ten nights of the holy month, praying that God would count her and the viewers among those spared from the Fire and grant them entry into Paradise.

The video attracted considerable attention following news of her death, as viewers recalled her words and prayed for God to grant her mercy and forgiveness. The moment once again drew attention to the artist, who had been away from the entertainment scene for many years.

Artists Pay Tribute to the Late Performer

Several artists paid tribute to Raja Mohammed, remembering her career and the legacy she left behind.

Artist Khaled Abdul Latif wrote: “May God have mercy on our sister Raja Mohammed.” He highlighted the public’s connection with her work and beautiful voice, praying that God would envelop her in His mercy and forgiveness.

Media personality Fajr Al Saeed also mourned her passing in an emotional message, writing: “My grief is immense over the loss of the beautiful, wonderful and gracious artist Raja Mohammed. Despite her stardom, she retired, wore the hijab, raised her children and left all the fame behind her.”

The condolence messages reflected the sadness surrounding the passing of an artist whose name was associated with a significant period in the history of Kuwaiti television drama and children’s theatre.

A Career Spanning Acting and Singing

Raja Mohammed Salem was a Kuwaiti artist who worked in both acting and singing. Born in 1962 to a Syrian father and a Kuwaiti mother, she began her artistic career at the age of 16.

She became known for her appearances in theatrical productions and television programmes, particularly those aimed at children and families. Her work helped establish her presence in Kuwait’s entertainment industry during an important period for family-oriented theatre and television.

However, she brought her artistic career to an early end and withdrew from public life, choosing to focus on her family rather than continue pursuing fame.

Although she remained away from the spotlight for many years, the news of her death and the renewed circulation of her Ramadan video have brought her back into public attention. The tributes from fellow artists and media figures reflect the lasting impression she made on audiences through her performances, singing voice and decision to leave the entertainment industry at the height of her career.
